Anybody for that matter not only teenagers with IUD in place can get pregnant though the Copper T is most commonly used and effective method of birth control. It prevents pregnancy in 99.7% of the women. So pregnancy with IUD has similar symptoms as that of a regular pregnancy, there is no difference between the two. However the IUD pregnancies have certain risk factors, say for example if we don’t remove the IUD with the pregnancy, 50% of the women, may miscarry. So the recommendation is to let the pregnancy to go forward and IUD be removed. Even after removing the IUD, 25% of the pregnancies can get terminated or aborted. So we should be very closely monitoring the pregnancy. Also the tubal pregnancy is slightly more common with the IUD compared to the pregnancy with the IUD. So we have to quickly diagnose these condition and quickly and treat appropriately to prevent permanent damage to the reproductive system. So these are the concern when we are dealing with IUD pregnancies.
